There will be a reception on April 11th at 3 pm. \nThe Colors of Spring as represented in Kevin’s use of muted hues and Steve’s use of bright tones provides a wonderful way to welcome the new season and appreciate how color in all its forms brings art to life. Kevin and Steve each use wood in vastly unique ways making this art exhibit intriguing but also must-see. \nAfter retiring from a career as a carpenter\, Kevin returned to his artwork in a sunny studio in downtown Jeffersonville. There he began to experiment with steam-bent white oak\, cherry\, and other hardwoods. \nSculpting with wood is his preferred medium. Prior work was a carving process as opposed to assembly\, a method which emphasizes shape and form alongside color. “The three of these together – shape\, form and color – depend upon one another and give each piece its character and unique quality\,” says Kevin. \nA native New Yorker and Youngsville resident\, Steve has been exhibiting his work for many years in New York City\, Westchester and Long Island as well as at CAS in Livingston Manor.  Steve is an expert with color\, creating patterns and combinations which he puts to clever use in his Bargello pieces. Bargello is a form of needlework. \nHe also developed a unique style creating houses on canvas. His style has been called unusual\, quirky\, whimsical\, and certainly all his own. While my work is abstract\, it is inspired by many sources including\, of course\, the natural landscape as a reference for movement\, line\, and color. The element of chance is important to my process to foster spontaneity and surprise. And color is key!” \nMorrow’s studio view includes a cornfield and a long look back to the hills of the Beechwoods with its seasonal variations. Overlaying abstract and synthetic patterns onto nature and embedding them within landscapes\, clouds\, and seascapes\, Molloy attempts to go deeper into the question of what is the nature of reality. What is our relationship to the natural as humans attempt to ‘remake the world’ in our own image? As we merge into an increasingly artificial and technological reality\, how do we discern truth\, authenticity\, identity and the sacred? Can painting in the age of AI remain relevant? \nOriginally from the UK and with a BFA and an MFA\, Molloy has exhibited internationally as well as locally. She has resided in Parksville\, NY since 2002 and owns Transformational Spaces\, a successful faux finishing and mural painting company.
