    The Local Landscape: Visual and Political

    Robyn Almquist’s work will be on display at Domesticities from October 3rd – November 29th. There will be an opening reception on October 3rd from 2 – 4 pm.

    Her show will feature her hand printed linocuts, paintings, and mixed media pieces showing the local landscape as well as works with environmental and political themes. Almquist often combines linocuts with her illustrations and paintings in order to duplicate an image, or to mix the mediums in a way that can reference animation or give the piece a pop culture style.

    A linocut block print is made by cutting the negative space of an image into a linoleum block. Each one is handprinted. The printing process is often slightly imprecise giving each print its own unique quality. Almquist learned this printmaking technique around age twelve and has been using it in her work ever since.

    Robyn Almquist is a local artist based in Livingston Manor, New York. A Renaissance woman, she is the publisher and creative director of ArtKill Catskill magazine and the lead singer, ukelele and bass player in the band Open for Suggestions.

    Remaking the World – Paintings from 2024 – 2026

    Painter Sharon Molloy will show her work from September 5 – 27th.  She describes these new paintings as an exploration of  her relationship to nature, technology, God and the sublime. Overlaying abstract and synthetic patterns onto nature and embedding them within landscapes, clouds, and seascapes, Molloy attempts to go deeper into the question of what is the nature of reality. What is our relationship to the natural as humans attempt to ‘remake the world’ in our own image? As we merge into an increasingly artificial and technological reality, how do we discern truth, authenticity, identity and the sacred? Can painting in the age of AI remain relevant?

    Originally from the UK and with a BFA and an MFA, Molloy has exhibited internationally as well as locally. She has resided in Parksville, NY since 2002 and owns Transformational Spaces, a successful faux finishing and mural painting company.

    Treelines and Shorelines — Inspired by Nature

    Jeffersonville artist Suzanne Andrews will exhibit at Domesticities through July 13th.

    Andrews explains that “as an artist with a background in biology, my creative journey is a reflection of my deep emotional connection to the natural world, especially the Adirondacks, and a pursuit of realistic, detailed representations inspired by nature’s beauty.”

    With its specific focus, “Treelines and Shorelines” explores nature at its edges – where land meets water and earth meets sky.  Andrews uses watercolor or ink and pencil to authentically portray the intricate beauty and tranquility of landscapes, ecosystems, and the flora and fauna within them.

    Meet the artist at the opening reception Saturday, June 21st from 2 – 4 pm.  The show will be on display until July 13th during regular business hours.  Domesticities is located at 4055 State Rte 52, Youngsville, NY 12791.
